KQED, in partnership with Verizon and the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, invites you to a screening and discussion of the film, American Experience: Freedom Riders. In 1961, a courageous band of black and white Americans risked their lives to travel together on buses through the deep South. They called themselves the Freedom Riders, and they managed to bring the president and the American Public face-to-face with the challenge of correcting civil rights inequities that plagued the nation.
We will be sharing a 60 minute excerpt of the 2 hour film. Post-screening discussion will cover topics such as: history of Civil Rights in the Bay Area, where we are now, what the current issues are, and how people can get involved.
